Serve with creamy cheeses, such as Manouri, Ricotta Salata, or a sharp Stilton, Gorgonzola or Rockford; great with cured meats, grilled and roasted poultry and game.

Pumpkin, Tangerine and Marmalade BreadA sweet festive treat for the New Year’s breakfast. I came up with the recipe as I have made dozens of jars of marmalade from our very productive Seville Orange tree.

New Year's CakeThis is my mother’s recipe. Serve on its own for breakfast or as a snack with coffee, tea or a glass of orange juice. Decorate with almonds or simply sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar.

BOBOTAMix all ingredients together, except the sesame seeds, stirring with a wooden spoon to make a thick batter like cooked polenta. Add a bit more water if needed.

Lemon OR Seville Orange MarmaladeAdapted from the traditional English recipe. I often add some julienned tangerine, orange and kumquat peels together with the sliced lemon and Seville orange.

Dilute the pickling lime in the water and add the diced pumpkin. Leave for 4 hours or overnight, and drain. Rinse thoroughly under cold water. Drain and lay on paper towels to dry the pieces.

An unusually deep flavored sweet pumpkin pie from the large island of the northeastern Aegean. The cheese used in Lesbos is the local ladotyri (cheese aged submerged in olive oil). Parmigiano Reggiano is a good substitute.

Beat together the olive oil and sugar with a hand-held mixer.
In a large bowl mix together the flour, baking powder, spices, raisins and nuts. Add the oil mixture, the liqueur and orange juice and mix with a spatula.

Serve finished lemon peel rolls with a glass of water on their own, as dessert, or slice rolls and use as topping for vanilla ice cream, thick yogurt, or cakes. To juice lemons, quarter the peeled lemons remove the pips, and process in a blender.

Peel lemons as described in Rolled Lemon Peel in Syrup, but instead of rolling pieces, cut with scissors into thin strips. Cook in syrup, without removing and draining the peels.
